JAMES HENRY "JIMMIE" BARTLEY (FMHS 1940)    12/8/2007

Loved by many, respected by all, Jimmie Bartley, Florida Cracker, born 
October 31, 1922 in Fort Myers, Florida, son of Henry A. Bartley of 
Chokoluskee, Florida and Lessie (Waldron) Bartley of Arcadia, Florida 
passed on December 5, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. A graduate 
of Fort Myers High School, he went on to the University of Florida in 
Gainesville to the school of Engineering, on the dean's list, until he 
enlisted in the Army to serve in WW2 in the Pacific as a EMG in the 16th 
Squadron on a B-29 crew. After the war he came back to Fort Myers to join 
his father in the family business and later owned and operated Bartley 
Sporting goods until he passed the business along to his niece and nephew, 
Loring (Piper) Strickland and Steve Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeanne Bartley 
Piper (FMHS 1947). He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving 
wife of 57 years, Rena Middleton Bartley (FMHS 1949), a native of Fort 
Myers, four daughters; Vicki Elaine Bartley Loarte (FMHS 1970) of Fort 
Myers, Jan Marie Bartley (FMHS 1973) of Melbourne, Florida, Susan Jean 
"Susie" Bartley (FMHS 1976) of Canby, Oregon and Terri Lou Bartley 
(FMHS 1980) of Fort Myers, Florida, five grandchildren; Justin 
Shaffner and Zachary Bartley Shaffner of Canby, Oregon, Victoria 
Loarte of Fort Myers, Florida, James Bartley Lambert of Lavernia, 
Texas and Alexandra Bartley Ortegon of Fort Myers, Florida. Also his 
niece Loring Strickland and her husband Steve Strickland, nephew Dr. 
Douglas Piper and his wife Christine Piper, grandnieces and nephews 
and many friends who loved him dearly. He will be missed by all who

A celebration of life will be held on Monday December 10th at 11 AM at the 
First Baptist Church of Fort Myers in downtown Fort Myers at the corner of 
Second and Jackson St. with Dr. Wilford Hendrix officiating. A reception 
will follow.

Gayle E. (Whitmore) Leclair, 51, died of cancer Dec. 5 in St. Pete. 
She was born and raised in Fort Myers and graduated from FMHS in 1974. 
She moved to St. Pete in 1977, where she lived until her passing. 

She is predeceased by her mother, Marion E. Whitmore, and grandparents 
Lee and Paul Jackson all of Fort Myers. She is survived by her former 
husband and renewed love of her life, Denis Leclair, St. Pete; sister 
Linda (Whitmore) Husz (Van), Fort Myers; brother Gil Whitmore (Gail), 
Fort Myers; brother Paul Ramsay (Linda Sue), Port Charlotte; aunts 
Joann and Sara Jackson; 6 nieces and 1 nephew; and 3 great nieces and

DONALD "DONNIE" MATHIS (FMHS 1964)      12/8/2007

Donald "Donnie" Mathis, age 61, of Lehigh Acres, FL, died Thursday, 
Dec. 6, 2007. Born in Fort Myers, FL, he was the son of Nolan and Hazel 
McClenithan Mathis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Brandy K., and sister, 
Jean C. Mathis.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Kim Andrews Mathis, 
daughter, Heather, son, Patrick, his sister, Phyllis Borden, brother, 
Robert Mathis, and many nieces and nephews. 

A lifelong resident, he graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1964
and later worked for the Lee County D.O.T. for 35 years. He will be 
missed greatly by all his family, friends, and co-workers. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 11th, 6-7 pm, with a 
memorial service to follow at 7:00 pm at Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral 
Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. Rev. George McCracken of Wesley 
United Methodist Church will be officiating.

ALICE ELIZABETH "LIBBY" HARTSFIELD  (WILTSHIRE) (FMHS 1930)

Libby Wiltshire, 94, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers passed into 
eternal life on Saturday, December 22, 2007, at home surrounded by her 
loving family. 

She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Warren B. 
"Bud" Wiltshire, in February 1974. She was born in Fort Myers on June 
16, 1913, to Bessie and Newton Hartsfield. She was graduated from Fort 
Myers High School with the class of 1930. 

Libby was the third generation of her Southwest Florida pioneer family 
to be a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. An avid 
gardener and accomplished seamstress, she served on both the Flower 
and Sewing Committees of St. Luke's Episcopal Churchwomen. Banners and 
vestments that she constructed are still in use. 

Libby's membership in Fort Myers Country Club Women's Golf 
Association, where she served as handicap chairman for the Nine Hole 
Group, spanned more than 40 years. 

Libby's civic involvement included many years of membership in Fort 
Myers Woman's Community Club and the Edison Pageant of Light, where 
she proudly supported the participation of her children, grandchildren 
and great-grandchildren in these activities and events. 

Although Libby spent her college years at Florida State College for 
Women, she was an enthusiastic Gator fan. She regularly attended 
University of Florida football games in Gainesville and throughout the 
SEC for over 50 years, from the time her children were in school at UF 
until recently. 

The main focus of her life has always been her family. Libby leaves a 
treasured legacy, including memories of the many wonderful family 
gatherings and trips that she initiated through the years. 

She is survived by her sons James D. Wiltshire (Susan) of Hamilton, 
Massachusetts, and Warren B. Wiltshire, Jr., (RubyJean), and her 
daughter Nancy Wiltshire Roberts, all of Fort Myers. 

Her 12 grandchildren are: James Wiltshire, Jr., of Chicago, IL; 
Elizabeth Wiltshire-Gordon (Jacques) of Wilmette, IL; William M. 
Wiltshire (Serena) of Washington, D.C.; Caroline Wiltshire (Terry 
Johnson) of Gainesville, FL; Warren B. Wiltshire, III, of Tampa, FL; 
Lynn Cantisano (Chip); Elizabeth Wiltshire Marlow; William B. 
Wiltshire (Mary Chris); Richard Roberts (Deborah), all of Fort Myers; 
Tris Roberts (Maria) of Naples, FL; Michael Roberts of Lake City, FL; 
and Ronald Roberts (Amy) of Charlotte, NC. She has 16 great-
grandchildren. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Shirley S. Wiltshire 
of Gainesville, FL; her niece, Nancy Hartsfield Pollock (Richard) of 
Freeport, FL; nephew Keith Hartsfield (Patsy) of St. Petersburg, FL, 
numerous Wiltshire nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

PM on Wednesday, December 26. Services at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 
27, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Private interment at Fort Myers

Andrew Jackson Cook, Jr., 59, passed away Thursday morning. He was 
a Florida native and a lifelong resident of the Fort Myers area.

Evelyn Frances Luettich Horne, a native of Estero, Florida went to be 
with the Lord Sunday, November 18, 2007. Evelyn was born August 11, 
1922 on Mound Key. 

Mrs. Horne is survived by her children, Darlene Johnson and Herby of 
Estero and Billy Horne and Linda also of Estero. Grandchildren 
include, George Johnson, Angel Wilson, Blake, Heather Madden and Eric. 
Great-Grandchildren include Alexis, Chrissandra, Ashley, Dani 
O'Connor, Jasmine Horne, Paige and Peyton Madden.

EDITH WILLIAMS (BARDEN) (FMHS 1937)   12/5/2007

Mrs. Barden, 87, Orlando, passed away peacefully at her College Park 
home Friday after an extended illness. Born in Mount Olive, North 
Carolina, she moved to Florida in 1926. She was an alumna of Fort 
Myers High School (Valedictorian, '37), Florida State College for 
Women (B.S., '41), and Rollins College (Master of Arts in Teaching 
with a Certificate in Guidance, '66). She was a member of Phi Beta 
Kappa. 

Mrs. Barden was an adjunct Instructor in Chemistry and Biology at 
Orlando Junior College and Valdosta State College. She pursued a 
lengthy career in Orange County Public Schools, teaching at Lockhart, 
Orla Vista, Grand Avenue, and Princeton Elementary Schools, and Robert 
E. Lee Junior High School. She was a guidance counselor at Winter Park 
High school from 1971 until her retirement in 1982. In retirement she 
was recalled to vacant positions in guidance at Oak Ridge, Doctor 
Phillips, and Boone High Schools. 

She was active in the Florida Trail Association, the Florida Native 
Plant Society, Camp Thunderbird, and the Coalition for the Homeless. A 
founding member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, she was active in 
choir and other church activities. At her death she was a member of 
the Anglican Cathedral of the Incarnation, College Park. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Walter E. Barden, 
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Williams Sr., her brothers Robert 
and Edward Williams, and her sister Dorothy Byrne. She is survived by 
her sister Margaret Williams Strock (FMHS 1939), Rockville, MD, sons 
Dr. Robert Barden, Fort Myers, and James Barden, Orlando, her daughter 
Anne Larsen, Orlando, granddaughters Dr. Catherine Barden, Dallas, TX, 
Jessica Barden, New Orleans, LA, and Annemarie Finch, Orlando, 
grandson Matthew Finch, Orlando, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles A. Robert Thomas, age 47, formerly of Fort Myers, FL died 
November 11, 2007 in Austin, TX. He was a 1978 graduate of Fort Myers 
Senior High School, and formerly worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. 

He is survived by a brother, David M. Thomas and family of Cape Coral, 
FL; a sister, Kathleen Thomas Peterson and family of Baton Rouge, LA; 
and a cousin, Patricia Franchina of Longwood, CA. He was preceded in 
death by his mother, Dorothea Thomas and his maternal grandparents, 
Michael and Catherine Courtney.

Frankie Louise Watson, 91, died in Astoria, Oregon December 22, 2007. 
Mrs. Watson was born in Fort Myers April 20, 1916. She lived in 
Florida for 89 years and Oregon for the last two years of her life. 
She was the daughter of Lee County pioneers Annie Leathlean Green and 
Frank Marion Green. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. 
Watson, a son, Ray s. Birdsong and five brothers and four sisters. 

Mrs. Watson is survived by two sons, Terry E. (Karen) Watson of 
Astoria, Oregon, Jack C. "Kippy" (Lisa) Watson of Big Pine Key, four 
grandsons, Scott (Paula) Birdsong of Loxahatchee, FL, Vincent Birdsong 
and Christopher Watson of Tallahassee, FL and Erin (Jean Marie) Watson 
of Palm Harbour, FL, a daughter-in-law, Veronica Birdsong of 
Loxahatchee Groves, FL and a sister, Joan Johnson of Astoria, Oregon. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

MARJORIE JEAN WINTLE (LACKEY)   (FMHS 1937)   1/27/2008

Marjorie Jean Wintle Lackey, 88, of Fort Myers, FL passed away January 
25, 2008. She was born June 10, 1919 in Fort Myers, FL to parents 
Captain Arthur Noble Wintle and Nellie Mabel Russell Wintle. She was 
preceded in death by her husband Floyd L. Lackey on Sept. 18, 2006. 
They were married for 66 years. 

Mrs. Lackey had 1 brother, Arthur Russell Wintle, Sr. and 2 sisters, 
Eleanor Wintle Ellis and Winifred Wintle Moore that preceded her in 
death. 

She and her husband were in the court of Edisonia in February, 1950. 
Mrs. Lackey worked at the Arcade Book Shop in the 50's and 60's and 
later at the Sunshine Card Shop in downtown Fort Myers. she also was a 
member of the Lee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers (Pink Lady) 
for 35 years. Jean was a loving, caring person always thinking of 
others before herself. She will be missed by everyone who knew and 
loved her. 

Mrs. Lackey is survived by a daughter; Gail Lackey Uzzell and her 
husband, Ronald of Fort Myers; a granddaughter, Rebecca Uzzell Egbert 
of Fort Myers, and several nieces and nephews; also a very special 
sister-in-law, Jewel Wintle of Fort Myers. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM on Wednesday, January 30th 
at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd. with 
burial to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends will

Evelyn Elizabeth Futral, 85, was born February 17, 1923 in Tennille, 
GA to James Franklin Futral and Ora Lee (Whatley) Futral. 

She was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 3 sisters and is survived 
by 1 sister, Mary Will (Futral)Harvey. 

The James Futral family moved to Fort Myers, FL in 1926. Evelyn 
graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1941 and worked at First 
National Bank of Fort Myers until she moved to Fort Lauderdale where 
she worked at Burdines Department Store. She moved to Orlando in 1954 
and worked at Ivey's Department Store as a statistician. She retired 
as office manager of Moss Realty in Orlando. She was a loyal Member of 
the Fort Myers Pioneer club.

John G. Hoffman, age 70, of N. Fort Myers, passed away on Feb. 26, 
2008. He graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1957. He was a Naval 
veteran from 1957 on the USS Zellers. He retired from United Telephone 
in 1993. His hobbies included drag racing, antique cars and tractors, 
car shows. Another favorite was to travel and spend several months 
throughout the year in his and Linda's log cabin in Green Mountain, 
NC. 

He was preceded in death by his parents John R. Hoffman and Mary 
Hoffman; son John Robert Hoffman. John was married 33 years to his 
wife Linda. He is also survived by his daughters, Lindsay (Josh) 
Wright, Kristy Hoffman, Donna (Dana) Berry; sons, John Scott (Kim) 
Hoffman, Tony (Theresa) Hoffman; grandchildren, Dylan, Alexander, 
Lauren, Sara Jonathan, Luke Annie, Emma, Megan, Spencer; sisters, 
Shirley (Bob),Joan (Archie), nephew, Brian; niece, Theresa. John 
was dedicated, hardworking, loved his family and cherished friends. 

There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, March 1, 2008 1:00 pm at 
Hope Hospice Chapel, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy. East, Cape Coral. In lieu of

John Carter Sanders, 60, of Fort Myers, passed away unexpectedly 
Friday, February 29, 2008. 

John was a Fort Myers native, born November 18, 1947 to James T. and 
Daisy (McSwain) Sanders. He was a 1965 graduate of Fort Myers High 
School and grew up in a Fort Myers that was small and close-knit and 
where people focused on God, family and the gentle things in life. 
John had a lifelong love of music, especially the piano, and a natural 
talent for ballroom dancing that was cultivated by Miss Betty Black. 
As a child, John's family owned and operated Sanders Brother's Tire 
Store, and later, he opened Suncoast Tires. John was widely known for 
his association with Sam Galloway Ford where he worked for 32 years in 
truck and commercial sales. 

In his leisure time, John enjoyed golfing, playing pool, scuba diving, 
and a good game of Gin or Texas Hold 'em, but most of all, John loved 
to fish. He was an accomplished sports fisherman, having competed in 
every Cracker Invitational and Ole Timers' Invitational since their 
inception. John will be remembered as man who was a lighthearted and 
fun loving with a laid-back outlook on life and gruff exterior that 
covered a loving and sensitive interior. His family was the center of 
his existence and lived to make them happy and provide for them to the 
best of his ability. 

John leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years, Susan; his former wife 
of 10 years, Terry Sanders of Fort Myers; his two children, Mark and 
Tammy Sanders, both of Fort Myers; two Havanese "fur children" Annie 
and Sophie Sanders; two brothers, J.T. (Sandra) Sanders, Jr. and 
Cullen (Kim) Sanders, both of Fort Myers; one sister, Jane(Donald) 
Baucom of Kiniston, AL and formerly of Fort Myers; his brother-in-law 
Bruce Robertson III of Naples; his nephews, Tyson Sanders, James T. 
"Jamie" Sanders III and Bruce "Buddy" Robertson IV; his nieces, Ashley 
Robertson and Jill (Walt) Bethel; grand nieces and grand nephews, 
Peyton and Truman Bethel and Bruce "Alex" Robertson, V. John is 
preceded in death by his parents and eldest brother, Terry Sanders. 

John will be sorely missed by his family as well as the myriad of 
friends and acquaintances he had acquired as a lifelong resident of 
Fort Myers. His hallmark was his ability to relate to people of all 
walks of life. John was as comfortable sitting on a swamp buggy in the 
middle of the woods as he was at a county club cocktail party. 

As a child, he enjoyed summers with his family at Fort Myers Beach and 
Naples. In his younger years he spent many happy hours hunting and 
fishing on Bear Island with family and friends. His wife, Susan, 
shared his life-long passion for fishing and the two of them spent 
many happy hours on the back bays of Pine Island Sound cruising their 
favorite fishing holes looking for snook and redfish. 

John and Susan were residents and members of Fiddlesticks County Club 
for 13 years where John loved to play the "Long Mean" -- a golf course 
he considered to be one of the finest in Southwest Florida. His golf 
career was highlighted by three "hole-in-ones" on the third hole, of 
the Long Mean. 

Six years ago, he and Susan moved into a little home on the 
Caloosahatchee in East Fort Myers where, together, they could watch 
the sun rise and set on the water every day and fish off the "dock of 
their bay" anytime they wanted.

ROBERT DON TAGGART        (FMHS 1949)         3/16/2008

Don Taggart, age 76, N. Fort Myers, died at home on March 11, 2008. 
Don was born in Houston, Texas, and moved to Florida in 1931 at the 
age of 5 months, to the late Robert and Jessie Taggart. 

Don served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean 
conflict. After his stint in the service, he worked in the flower 
industry in Lee County for many years. Don was owner of Fountain Fire 
Equipment from 1969 to 1992 at which time he retired. He was a member 
of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Fort Myers, Southwest Florida 
Historical Society and Southwest Florida Archaeological Society. Don 
was, first and foremost a family man, who loved spending time with his 
family, as well as with his many close friends. He also enjoyed 
fishing, archaeological digs, kayaking and woodworking. 

Don is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Peggy Thoroman 
Taggart (fmhs 1954), a daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Bill 
Koontz, a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Michelle Taggart, 
grandchildren, Kelly Davis, Justin Koontz, Jessica Taggart and Michael 
Taggart, his mother-in-law, Tressie Thoroman. 

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on 
Monday, March 17, at 10:00 AM with Father Phillip Read officiating. 
Burial will follow immediately afterwards at Memorial Gardens on 
Colonial Blvd., and a reception will follow the burial service at St. 
Luke's Church in the parish hall.

FLORENCE JANE BAIL (FALK)        (FMHS 1935)       4/25/2008

Florence Jane Bail Falk, 90, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008 in 
Greenville, NC. Born March 28, 1918, in Cleveland OH, she was the 
daughter of the late Florence Barnes and Frank Wooster Bail. She moved 
with her family to Fort Myers, FL in the early 1930's where she 
graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1935 and in 1940 graduated 
Magna Cum Laude from Duke University. She married her college 
sweetheart Robert Witherspoon Falk and returned to Fort Myers where 
she lived until moving to NC in 1980. Jane was the first Financial Aid 
Officer at Edison Community College. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Bob and 
two children, Robert Lawrence (Larry) Falk and Barbara Jane Falk. She 
is survived by her daughter Alison and husband Bill Lehman of 
Greenville, NC; brother George Bail and wife Meryon of Fort Myers; two 
grandchildren, Robin Dale and husband Stephen Pusser of Durham, NC and 
Laura Martin and husband Johnathon of Baumholder, Germany; two step 
grandchildren, Beth and Chris Lehman; 3 great-grandchildren and 3 
nieces.

GALE DELLMAR BENNETT (FMHS 1958) 

Gale Bennett, 68, of Cape Coral, died March 23, 2008. A prominent SW 
FL artist with an international following, he was born May 18, 1939 in 
W. Palm Beach, a son of the late Lillian Osborne and Ralph Bennett. In 
1996 Gale founded ArtStudy Giverny to offer artists the chance to 
paint in Claude Monet's Garden in Giverny, France. 

He is survived by his wife, M.C. "Cello" (Forszt) Bennett, his 
daughter Anna Bennett of Jupiter, and his stepson Christopher Mioni of 
Palo Alto, CA. A celebration of Gale's life will be held on Sunday, 
April 27, from 2 to 4 pm at BIGARTS, Sanibel. In his memory

GALE DELLMAR BENNETT, 68, FLORIDA ARTIST 
Influenced generations with art, generosity

Gale Bennett's credo was to live as a beneficial presence in the world.

And so he established art schools in Fort Myers and in Giverny, 
France. He nurtured artists and musicians through decades of frank but 
considerate criticism in The News-Press and other publications. He 
donated his work to charities such as Abuse Counseling and Treatment 
Inc. and Island Coast AIDS Network. 

Even in the last months of his life, when he battled brain tumors, 
Bennett continued to share his gifts with students. 

"He said to anybody who wanted to hear that this was the happiest time 
of his life," said Bennett's wife, Cello. "He wanted to know when it 
was time to go. He was ready." 

Bennett, 68, died Sunday at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral after suffering 
a stroke March 16. A celebration of his life is planned at 2 p.m. 
April 27 at Barrier Island Group for the Arts, 900 Dunlop Road, 
Sanibel. BIG Arts had already scheduled a 45-year retrospective of his 
work in October. 

Bennett also is survived by a daughter, Anna Bennett of Jupiter, and 
stepson, Christopher Mioni of Palo Alto, Calif. 

Bennett's roots in Florida and in the local arts community ran deep. 
He was born in West Palm Beach, and his family moved to Fort Myers 
when he was 2. When he was about 14, Bennett painted his first public 
mural at a Fort Myers youth center. 

After studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and 
exhibiting at Manhattan galleries, Bennett returned home for good in 
1968. 

"He came back for the nature," Cello Bennett said. "He couldn't 
survive in New York. There wasn't enough to inspire him. He was a 
Florida boy." 

A quote from impressionist painter Claude Monet will be engraved on 
his gravestone: "Nature never ends." 

Artists who were friends with Bennett said his connection to the 
environment infused his work, which ranged from figurative to semi-
abstract to impressionist. 

"You could see throughout his work there was passion and a love of 
color through nature," said artist Alicia Schmidt, who knew Bennett 
for more than 30 years and considers him a mentor. "He said once if 
you're ever struggling with color look to nature - color is there." 

Whether writing criticism or teaching a class, Bennett enjoyed a good 
rapport with people, she said. 

He opened his first art school in 1969 in a space in Patio DeLeon in 
downtown Fort Myers. Six years later, he was chosen as the first 
artist to exhibit at the new Lee County Alliance for the Arts, where 
he later led many workshops. 

David Robinson started studying with Bennett after retiring as Edison 
College president in 1992. 

"He had immense influence on so many people in the area," Robinson 
said. "I don't know of any other artist who had that." 


JAMES TROY "JIM" STEVENS   (FMHS 1936)

Jim Troy Stevens, 1914 - 2008 was born in Lois, Florida. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Loma Stevens, sons: Jimmy Stevens and 
Troy Stevens and daughter, George Ann Osborne. He is survived by 
daughters: Donna Strayhorn (Guy), Grace Waite, Annie Tibble (Dave) and 
Susan Piscitelli (Gary); 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 
1 great, great grandchild. 

As a child, he lived in various lumber camps in South Florida and his 
family finally settled in N. Fort Myers where he attended the one-room 
school house on Moody Road and later graduated from Fort Myers High 
School. In his teen years, he delivered telegrams to Thomas and Mina 
Edison. Later, he distributed the News-Press to outlying communities. 

He learned his trade as a carpenter helping to construct Fort Jackson 
in South Carolina and then worked for various Southwest Florida 
contractors. He then established Stevens Cabinet Company in N. Fort 
Myers where, for many years, he built quality cabinets for homes, 
local schools, banks and the Edison Home. His warm personality and 
quick wit endeared him to all those around him. He will be missed by 
all who knew him and loved him.

Frank Thomas Williams, 71, of Estero and Naples, died Tuesday, October 
26th in Bay Pines Veterans Hospital. He was born in Caxambas (Lee 
County), FL, March 3, 1911 and lived all of his life in this area. 

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Williams; two daughters, Frances C. 
Tweed of St.Petersburg and Ramona Giroux of Norfolk, VA; three 
brothers, Carl I. Williams of Ponce De Leon, FL, T. Lawrence Williams 
of No. Ft.Myers and Eugene R. Williams of Miami; two sisters, Ruby 
Kipple of Franklin, NC and Elizabeth Peoples of No. Ft.Myers; two 
granddaughters, Kris Ann Tweed and India Frances Giroux; also several 
uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

W.J. (Dick) Hendry passed away April 11, 2008 in his home in Prescott, 
AR. He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett J. and Georgia 
Belle Hendry, and, in 1994, by his beloved wife June. 

Surviving to cherish his memory are a son, W.J. (Dickie) Hendry and 
wife Lynn; a daughter, Ginger Raber; 4 grandchildren: Jarod and wife 
Stephanie; Paige, Joel and Jenna; his brother, A.F. Hendry and wife

OSCAR WILLOUGHBY MCCLENITHAN   (FMHS 1948)

Oscar McClenithan, 73, of Wauchula, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at 
Lakeland Regional Medical Center. 

Born in Fort Myers, he had lived in Wauchula over 35 years. He was a 
member of Lake Dale Baptist Church, coached Little League, was an 
avid fisherman, hunter, and grandfather and was a veteran of the 
Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1994 from 
Peace River Electric, completing 29 years of service. 

Survivors are his wife, Sheila Barrett McClenithan; four sons, Michael 
McClenithan of Fort Myers, Paul McClenithan and wife Phyllis of Fort 
Myers, Cole McClenithan and wife Amy of Wellsville, Pa, and Ross 
McClenithan and wife Renee of Wauchula; three daughters, Donna Burt 
and husband Buddy of Cape Coral and Kaherine Woods and and Lynn 
Holland, both of Palm Harbor; and nine grandchildren.

KENNETH EDWIN ANDERSON     FMHS 1949           February 10, 2008

Kenneth Edwin "Ken" Anderson, Ph.D., passed away on February 10, 2008 
at his home in Yukon, Oklahoma. He was born September 7, 1931 in New 
York City, N.Y. to Louise Merchant (Anderson), and grew up in Ft. 
Myers, Fla, where he was named for his step-father. He had one sister,  
Louise Anderson.  Ken proudly served in the Marine Corps during the 
Korean Conflict earning the Expert Rifleman medal. Upon his return to 
the United States, he was a Ft. Myers police officer, where he met 
Cathy Tully, an RN, in the emergency room of Lee Memorial Hospital. 

Ken was drafted into the Army and was sent to Germany with Cathy 
following to join him in marriage in September 1955. Upon their return 
to the U.S., Ken worked while attending the University of Florida, 
Eastern Illinois University, and Oklahoma State University, where he 
earned his Ph. D. in 1975. He was editor of Engineering Publications 
and a professor of American History at  OSU.  He later worked in 
administration at Redlands Community College, and as a writer of 
training materials at the FAA in Oklahoma City.  He co-authored a 
college textbook, Modern Petroleum, a primer of the oil industry. 
Fourteen other books would follow with his co-author. Ken was a member 
of Sigma Delta Chi and the Oklahoma Reserves.

Therese of Kansas, a daughter, Kim Payne, of Arizona, a daughter 
Deborah Doggett and husband Robert of Yukon, a daughter Barbara

Gloria of Oklahoma City, and grandchildren Brian Payne, Amanda 
(Payne) Davidson and husband Zane Mikah Dow, Sean Dow, Lauren Beth 
Doggett, Brent Doggett, Erica Doggett, and one great-granddaughter, 
Kinley Davidson. 

A private memorial service will be held April 27 at 6pm under the 
direction of  Corbett Funeral Services, 807 W. Wiltshire, Oklahoma 
City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to 
Compassionate Care Hospice.

Mary A. Snyder, 64, of Fort Myers passed away Saturday, March 15, 
2008. A lifetime resident of Fort Myers, she retired from the State of 
Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement and was dedicated to serving her Lord 
and Savior through her church Sunshine Academy. She loved her family, 
was fun loving, free spirited and loved life. She will be sadly missed 
by all who knew her. 

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Snyder; son, Wally (Debbie) 
Rewis; daughter, Kim DeLora; step children: James, Tasha, Angela and 
Edwon Snyder; brother, Henry (Juanita) Clark; sister, Carolyn Moyer; 
grandchildren, Bobby, Blake and Brittany. She was predeceased by her 
first husband, Terry Rewis in 1998 and her parents, William and

JIMMY L PENDARVIS          (FMHS 1963)          4/1/2008

Jimmy L. Pendarvis, 63, of N. Fort Myers passed away on Sunday, March 
30, 2008 after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born November 
4, 1944, in Fort Myers to Percy and Barbara Davis Pendarvis (FMHS 
1942). He attended Lee County schools and graduated from Fort Myers 
High School, class of 1963. He was a member of the Florida National 
Guard. He worked many years for Norman Auto Supply and for the past 23 
years for the City of Cape Coral as a mechanic II, retiring in 2007. 
Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Percy Pendarvis. Survivors 
include his mother, Barbara Davis Pendarvis (FMHS 1942; brother Ken 
(Susan Kennedy, FMHS 1966) Pendarvis (FMHS 1966), sons Daniel (Judy) 
Pendarvis and James (Mindy) Pendarvis, granddaughters; Madelyn, 
Danielle, Amber, Ashlee and Amanda all of Fort Myers. He is also 
survived by step-children, John, Joanne, and Jack (Becky) Wilson; 
step-grandchildren; Taylor, Marie, James, Kyle, Leland, Morgan and 
niece Sheri (David) Phelps and their children Lauren and Garrin of 
Dothan, AL and nephew KW (Amy) Pendarvis, and Kamy-Jo of Fort Myers 
and his companion Mitzi Hammer of Cape Coral.

CAROLE DIXIE DANCE (FRENCH)         (FMHS 1960)

Dixie French was born in Fort Myers, Florida on November 9, 1942 to 
Rev. W. Eric and Mildred Dance. She grew up here in Fort Myers, where 
she met her husband, Johnny French during their senior year in high 
school. It was the beginning of a love story that lasted for 43 years, 
until God took Johnny home in 2006. "Granny" continued to live without 
"Pappy" until Wednesday morning, March 19, 2008, when God took her 
peacefully while she slept.

She is survived by her children, Dawn Hansen and John Eric French, and 
their spouses, Tracy Hansen and Cherie French, whom she loved as her own; 
brother Donnie Dance and his wife Cheryl; brother-in-law, Randy French 
and his wife, Lindy; mother-in-law, Frances French; grandchildren, Jacob, 
Jesse and Camille Hansen; nieces, nephews, and many friends, both old 
and new.

Dixie was a founding member of New Hope Christian Church of N. Fort 
Myers, and also worshipped with the congregation of Lower Shell Creek 
Christian Church of Roan Mountain, TN.

Shirley A. Fischer, 72, of Flintville, TN formerly of Estero, FL passed away
March 30, 2008. A native of Estero for 71 years.

She is survived by husband Eugene Fischer of Naples, 3 sons; Mark, Scott,
Shawn Fischer all of Flintville, TN, 1 daughter Tina M. Fischer of Fort
Myers; a twin brother Robert Horne of Fayetteville, TN; four grandsons,
Daryl, James, Danny Fischer of Fort Myers and Larry Wagers of Ham, OH; two
granddaughters, LeeAnn Fischer of Flintville and Shaelee Ausdran of Cape
Coral; two great-grandchildren Hope and Dakota Fischer. Shirley was preceded
in death by one son Daryl Fischer. She will be missed by many friends. We'll

LADDIE RAY FABIAN WILLIAMS   (FMSH 1951)    7/6/2008

Mr. Williams was born December 4, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to Ray L. 
and Ruth Williams, school teachers in Saginaw and later at Standish 
Michigan. Moved to Fort Myers, Florida as a teenager and graduated from 
Fort Myers High School in 1951. He earned the Eagle Scout Award in the 
Boy Scouts and was the Lodge Chief of the Calusa Lodge of the Order of 
the Arrow. Mr. Williams also was presented with the E. Urner Goodman 
Portfolio by the Osceola Lodge 564. After a year at the University of 
Florida he returned to Fort Myers and established a business building 
homes. He returned to the University of Florida and earned a 
bachelor's degree and Masters Degree in Education with a major in 
Vocational Education. He worked in the Career Education Center as 
placement and follow-up officer when these services were first offered 
in the Alachua County Public Schools. He was a loyal Gator Fan. 

He then became one of the first Computer teachers in the Alachua 
County School System, teaching at Howard Bishop Middle School. Laddie 
retired from the Alachua County School Board in June, 2000. He was a 
member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Gainesville. He also was a 
member of the Gainesville Camellia Society. 

His wife, Sandra Howell Williams of Gainesville, formerly of Micanopy, 
survives Laddie. He is also survived by his brother and sister in-law 
Jerry and Martha Williams of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by his 
daughters, Paula Williams of Alachua, Shannon Hopkins of Starke, FL, 
Kristie Ward of Lake Butler, FL and a son, David Williams of 
Gainesville, FL. Grandchildren are Desiree and Danielle Williams, Kyle 
Reyes, Scott and Lenora Hopkins, and Morgan Arnold, Dustin Williams, 
Cory and Brittany Fischer. He is also survived by his step-children, 
Mozelle Yawn of Hazelhurst, GA, Jackie Allen of Micanopy, FL, Emory 
Christian of Rogers Arkansas, Janet and Clay Allen of Virginia Beach 
and numerous step grand-children and great-grandchildren.

HENRY EDWARD PEARCE            FMHS 1948             7/6/2008

Henry Edward Pearce, 78, died June 25th at his mountain home in 
Murphy, NC. He was an Eagle Scout and played Green Wave Football at 
Fort Myers High, graduating in 1948. He attended the University of 
Florida Gainesville, where he pledged Theta Chi. He was a member of 
Love and Grace Church. 

Henry married Jewel Fowler on July 9, 1950. He farmed with his Father, 
Walter Pearce, until he started his own real estate company "See It By 
Air" in 1956. He worked with Chuck Bundschu, Inc., then, retired from 
Forbes Realty in 2005. when he and Jewel moved to Murphy, NC. 

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Walter and Mellie Pearce, brother 
Gwynn and sister Thelma Watson. He is survived by his sons; Clint 
(Gail) of Sylva, NC, and Buddy Pearce, his daughter Ginny (Vern) Belt 
of Murphy, NC, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

CHARLES A "CHARLIE" D'ALESSANDRO      (FMHS 1968)   7/20/2008

Charles A. D'Alessandro, aged 57, was born in Fort Myers, Florida on 
November 12th, 1950 to George and Augustine D'Alessandro Sr. Charles 
D'Alessandro passed away on July 17th 2008 after a brave and 
courageous battle with cancer. Charles was a kind, caring, giving man 
with a gentle heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved his 
family very much. 

Charles is survived by his daughter Nicole D'Alessandro, son Anthony 
D'Alessandro, sister Fran D'Alessandro, brother George D'Alessandro 
Jr., nieces Dr. Angela D'Alessandro-Higby (Jerry), Gianna D'Alessandro 
and great nephew William Wallace Higby. 

Charles graduated from Fort Myers High School and went on to receive a 
Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Hotel Restaurant management 
from Florida State University. After college Charles managed Cypress 
Lake Country Club for four years before opening his own restaurant and 
lounge, D'Alessandro's. He has been a loyal and dedicated employee of 
Florida Cities Water and Lee County Utilities for more than 20 years. 
Charles will be remembered for his numerous acts of kindness, his 
generosity, his love of fishing, the Florida sunshine, old horror 
movies, and his passion for Florida State Football. He was a 
sensational man who will be greatly missed by his loving family and 
friends.

JAMES BURTON STEWART    (FMHS 1947)                7/16/2008

Burton Stewart, 79, passed away July 11, 2008, in Altamonte Springs, 
FL. He was born in Fort Myers, FL, on September 4, 1928 to Gladys and 
R.B. Stewart. He grew up in his father's business, R.B. Stewart & Son, 
and took over when his father passed away. 

He belonged to the Elks Club, Rod & Gun Club, and the 200 Dance Club. 
He enjoyed boating with family and friends, playing the piano, and 
flying. After earning his pilot's license he joined the Civil Air 
Patrol. 

Burton was known for his fun loving personality, great attitude. He 
always had an infectious smile on his face, making others feel better 
by being around him. 

Burton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Matha, Altamonte Springs, 
daughters Carolyn Blakely, Altamonte Springs, Connie Smith, Highlands, 
NC, and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Stacey Snyder McQuagge, 39, a long time resident of Fort Myers passed 
away peacefully July 9, 2008 in her sleep. Born in Lewiston, NY 
December 7, 1968, Stacey was the only daughter of C. Edward and 
Barbara Snyder. Prior to coming to Fort Myers, Stacey attended Stella 
Niagara Education Park Montessori Program, Maple Avenue School and 
later, Fort Myers Middle School. She graduated from Fort Myers High 
School in 1986. Stacey belonged to the swim clubs in Niagara and Fort 
Myers. She graduated from Edison College with an Associates Degree in 
Hospitality Management. 

Stacey is survived by her loving brother Todd (fmhs 1984); daughter-
in-law Morisa and baby Skyler of San Diego, CA; aunts Kristen, Mary 
and uncle Christopher of Niagara Falls, NY; cousins Wendy, Cherie of 
Youngstown, NY and Mike of Chicago, IL. 

Stacey was preceded in death by her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Emes of 
Niagara Falls, NY, Mr. and Mrs. Snyder and aunt Ann Buenzow of 
Youngstown, NY.

THOMAS J "TOMMY" Hall     (FMHS 1935)       7/20/2008

Thomas J. Hall, 92, of Palm Bay and Fort Myers, passed away Thursday, 
July 17, 2008. He was born in Butler, Missouri on Feb. 6,. 1916. He 
lived on a ranch in Great Falls, Montana. Later moved to Fort Myers 
and Palm Bay. 

He was AAU Boxing Champion in 1935. He served in the Army National 
Guard in 1936 and worked for the Army Air Force in 1944. He joined the 
Merchant Marine in 1945, serving on the S.S. Montana and the S.S. 
Tennessee in The Atlantic War Zone during World War II. He retired 
from Robb & Stucky in 1969. 

Thomas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian Frances Page Hall 
(FMHS 1940); two sons, Tommy Page Hall (FMHS 1960) and wife Judy Royal 
Hall and Harvey Joe Hall (FMHS 1967) and wife Patricia R. Hall; three 
grandchildren, Heather Hall-Lobley and husband, Jayson Lobley, Harbor 
Lee Hall and Arlee Kate Hall; one great-grandchild, Kilynn Page 
Lobley; one sister, Margaret Hall Boyce of California; two sisters-in-

Mr. Harrison Kimball Davison, Jr. of Ozark, Alabama, formerly of Fort 
Myers Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 15, 
2008, at the age of 92. He was surrounded throughout the week by his 
children, grandchildren, and close family friends. 

A memorial services were held Friday, July 18, 2008, 5 p.m., in the 
chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark with The Rev. Dr.

Louise, age 65, has gone be with her Lord after battling lung cancer.

Don Pigott, 72, of Fort Myers died Tuesday, August 19, 2008. 

A devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather, he was born 
in Fort Myers on January 12, 1936, to the late H.S. and Abbie Lois 
Pigott. 

A graduate of Fort Myers High School, he served in the U.S. Army, 11th 
Airborne Division. After serving in the Army, Don worked in the family 
business, Pigott Construction. He later received technical training in 
Dallas and worked in west Texas. After returning to Fort Myers, Don 
began a 30-year career with United Telephone Company. 

He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Ann "Peg" 
(Burchard) Pigott (FMHS 1956).    


Surviving relatives include son Steven Wade (Tamara) Pigott (FMHS 
1985) and treasured granddaughter Hayden Pigott; brothers Hoke S. 
(Darlene) Pigott Jr (FMHS 1950), Jerry Pigott, and Mike Pigott; 
sisters Shiela Jean Jacobs (FMHS 1962), Myrna Running (FMHS 1956), 
Jacquelyn (Melvin) Hart, Nancy (Eddie) Edwards (FMHS 1963), and Peggy

Carolina after retiring from a 33-year practice as a Chiropractor in 
Fort Myers, FL. 

Dr. Hart was a graduate of Lincoln College of Indianapolis, IN. He 
also served in the National Guard, and was a member of Riverside 
Baptist Church in Fort Myers, FL.

Norwood Redwine Strayhorn, 70 of Fort Myers died Monday. A native of
Labelle, FL, he has been a lifelong resident of Fort Myers. He is a 
member of the Masonic Lodge #56 F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marietta F. Strayhorn of Fort Myers;
two sons, Guy R. Strayhorn and E. Bruce Strayhorn, both of Fort Myers; 
one daughter, Marilee Lindner of Wheaton, IL; one nephew, Michael M. 
Strayhorn of Atlanta, GA and four grandchildren, Deborah Lindner

Prominent Fort Myers attorney Norwood Redwine Strayhorn died Monday, 
he was 71.

A graduate of Fort Myers High School and Georgia Military College,
Strayhorn began practicing law in Fort Myers in 1934 and served as
City Attorney from 1947 to 1952.

He was president of the Lee County Bar Association in 1953 and served 
as governor's representative to the Central and South Florida Water 
Management District in 1962.

He is survived by his wife, Marietta Strayhorn; two sons, E. Bruce and 
Guy R. Strayhorn; a daughter, Marilee Lindner; and four grandchildren.

He was the son of a former State Attorney and State legislator Guy 
Strayhorn.

Shelly Demko Wilkinson, 60, of Woodbridge, Virginia, formerly of Fort 
Myers, Florida, passed away on September 3, 2008 in Richmond, 
Virginia. 

She is survived by her sister, Sandi Davenport (and husband, Bobby), 
her niece Lisa Berran (and husband, Brian), her nephew, Denny Groenke 
(and wife, Susan) and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and close 
friends. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Michael Demko of Fort Myers, 
Florida and her mother Janet M. McGill of Lake Wales, Florida. 

In 1988 Shelly moved to Woodbridge, Virginia and became a secretary at 
the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She recently celebrated her 
twentieth anniversary with the FBI. While at the Bureau she made many 
good and long-lasting friends. She was a unique individual with a 
special gift for laughter. Those who knew her will remember her with a 
smile. Shelly loved animals and adopted many strays. It didn't matter 
if they were domesticated or wild, she was their advocate. Shelly 
leaves behind her well loved parrotlet of twenty years, Scooter.

Robert Pickering, long-time teacher and counsellor at FMHS passed away 
on July 14. 

He was 74. He had warm feelings for all his co-workers and he loved 
his students. A longtime member of the Baha'i Faith, he was a true 
believer in the oneness of humanity.

William Fay "Bill" Clement Sr., age 84, of Fort Myers, passed away 
August 30, 2008 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born July 28, 1924 in Moore 
Haven, the son of the late Leon M. and the late Mary Blanche (Skull) 
Clement. He served during WWII in the Navy. Bill was the Hendry County 
Department of Roads and Bridges. He had been a member of the First 
Christian Church of LaBelle and the Tice United Methodist Church of 
Fort Myers, the Tice and LaBelle Lyons Club and the LaBelle American 
Legion Post. 

Survivors include two sons; William "Billy" (Deborah) Clement of 
Palmdale, Jack (Pat) Clement of TX and his daughters; Karen (Terry) 
Daniels of Fort Myers, FL, Margi (Jerry) Stier of MT and one sister; 
Thelma Mays of Fort Myers, FL; his granddaughters Deanna (Chris) Van 
Emmerk of Punta Gorda, FL, and Sherri Smith; grandsons, Jack (Carolyn) 
Clement, Terry Daniels Jr., Russell Clement, Sean Clement , all of 
Fort Myers, and Kevin Lashbrook of MT; ten great-grandchildren and two 
great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers,

Henry "Jack" Jackson Carter, 75, a third generation resident of Lee 
County passed away Tuesday August 26th in Pocola, OK. He grew up in 
Fort Myers and was the son of the late Henry & Estelle Carter. 

Jack is survived by his wife Alice, six children; Perry (Sharon) of 
Howe, OK, Susan (Tom) Whitmore of Arcadia, FL, Randy of Mena, AR, 
Donald (Amy) Cape May, NJ, Jerry (Karen) Fort Smith, AR, Calvin 
(Monica) Nickolasville, KY, eighteen grandchildren and twelve great 
grandchildren. 

Jack's family will receive friends 11am to 1pm Saturday August 30th at 
the Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home 1600 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers 
with a graveside funeral service to follow at 2pm at the Buckingham 
Cemetery.

BOBBY DAN CANADY  (FMHS 1943)            2004-01-30

Maggie Valley NC- Bobby Dan Canady, 78, of 102 Hollow Drive, died 
Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at his home. His smiling face will be sadly 
missed; however, he would want to be remembered with laughter instead 
of tears. 

Mr. Canady was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Fort Myers, Fla. He lived in 
Florida the majority of his life until he became a resident of Maggie 
Valley in 1991 upon his retirement. He joined the Navy out of high 
school in 1943 and served as a torpedo man until his discharge in 
1946. He spent most of his life in the fishing industry where he began 
as a commercial fisherman in Fort Myers Beach, then as captain of the 
shrimp trawler Cameron and later as a bookkeeper for Singleton Shrimp 
Company at Fort Myers Beach. He was transferred to Tampa where he was 
manager of their boats for 11 years, and then to Singleton Seafoods of 
Key West, where he retired as vice president in 1991. His career with 
Singleton spanned 32 years in various capacities. 

For several years he was employed as manager of Pinellas Seafood and 
also of King Shrimp Company, both in Key West. He served as president 
of Southeastern Fisheries in 1983-84. He was the son of the late 
Daniel Webster Canady and Molsey Kennon Canady. He was the great-
grandson of a pioneer Florida family, the late William Henry "Bill" 
Brown and Sarah Jane Jernigan Brown of Immokalee, Fla. A brother, Gene 
Canady, and a sister Betty Jane Canady, preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia Crant Canady; 
(FMHS 1949) his children, Marcia Davis, and husband, Carl, of Key 
West, Fla., Robert Canady of Maggie Valley, Patrick Canady and wife, 
Allynda, of Clyde, Theresa Alayon of Ocala, Fla., Sharon Cordy and 
husband, David, of Tampa, Fla., and Kevin Canady and wife, Auriole, 
Hendersonville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one sister, Josephine 
Rose Hughes (FMSH 1951) of Fort Myers; and a nephew and a niece. 

He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. 
A memorial mass will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Margaret's 
Catholic Church in Maggie Valley with Father Francis J. Doyle 
officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium on the church

TIMOTHY CHARLES "TIM" TURANO        FMHS 1971      9/18/2008 

Timothy C. Turano, 55, of Fort Myers died Tuesday September 16, 2008 
due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. 

Tim is survived by his mother Marion Turano and husband Bob Morton, 
his wife Kim Hamilton Turano (FMHS 1975) and son Thomas, who was the 
light of his life. He is also survived by his brothers Joseph (Toni) 
Turano (FMHS 1964) and Jerry (Karen) Turano (FMHS 1968). He also 
leaves behind his nephew Peter Turano (FMHS 1987) and nieces Georgeann 
Hoose, Lisa Futch, Laura Turano. He was predeceased by his father 
Peter Turano. 

Tim graduated from Fort Myers High School and spent his entire career 
working with his brother Jerry at Turano Plastering Inc. He loved the 
work he did and was proud of his many accomplishments. Tim was an avid 
bowler from the time he was young boy and continued bowling throughout 
his life. He served as President of the SW Florida Bowling Association 
in 1985. Tim loved sports and the Miami Dolphins. 

Tim fought Parkinson's Disease with the determination of a warrior. He 
met each day with optimism and never gave up trying to do better even 
when the disease worsened. He always saw the bright side of every 
situation and was an inspiration to those around him. Even though he 
was unable to speak he still was able to light up a room with his

The family would like to thank the many Hope Hospice caregivers, 
nurses and support staff who cared for Tim over the last 7 years. The 
staff at College Park Care and Rehab where Tim resided for the last 18 
months are a remarkable group of people who truly care about their 
residents. We thank each and every one of you! A special thank you to 
Claudia Stafford for her love and compassion over the years.

MARY MICHELENE "MITCH" FLEMING (KOGER)  (FMHS 1955)   9/20/2008

Mary Michelene Koger, 71, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2008. 
She was born Jan. 1, 1937 in Cooperstown, TN, daughter of the late 
James and Martha Fleming. She moved to Fort Myers in 1952 where she 
graduated from Fort Myers Senior High. She worked as a telephone 
operator after graduation, then spent many years working for First 
Federal Savings and Loan in management, where she made many wonderful 
friends. She retired from banking in 1996. Mitch will be remembered 
most for her sense of humor, love of animals and devotion to her 
family and grandchildren, who were the very light of her life, "MeMaw" 
loved Kyle and Connor more than anything. From volunteering in the 
class room to being in the front row at their games, she was always 
there for them. She will be missed terribly by her family and many 
friends, especially Judy and Maryellen. 

She is survived by her husband Carl Koger, daughter Carla (Ken) 
Pearson, son Randy Koger, brother-in-law Ronnie Koger (Sandie) of 
Cookville, TN, Randall Koger and Janice Mitchell (Tom) of Richmond, 
VA, aunt Dorothy Martin of Franklin, KY, cousins Mike Martin and Don 
Martin of Franklin, KY, Margret Ann and Sara Jean Hickman of Franklin,

WALLACE M "SKIP" TINSLEY     (FMHS 1950)      5/22/2008

Wallace M. Tinsley was born on October 4, 1930 in Fort Myers, FL where 
he lived all of his adult life. 

Wallace graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1950 and soon after 
graduation enlisted in the National Guard where he attained the rank 
of Sergeant. He married his high school sweetheart Mina Rose Kingston 
(FMHS 1950) in September of 1951. 

Wallace was owner of several businesses over the years; including Fort 
Myers Armature Works, Caman Power Systems, Caman Auto Parts (later 
known as Fort Myers Auto Parts) and Caman Data Systems. 

He was an avid bowler serving as President of the SWFMBA and was 
honored by being inducted in to the SWFMBA Bowlers Hall of Fame. He 
was a founding director of South Florida Bank and active in the Araba 
Shrine Temple. Here he served as Potentate from 1981-1982, was a Past 
Director of ROJ, a member of the K-Cops and the Cyclops Motorcycle 
Corp. 

Wallace is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mina K. Tinsley, sister 
Arletta Rodgers, daughter Karen T. Neubert (Robert W.), and sons R. 
Warren Tinsley (Marie), W. Wayne Tinsley (fiancée Tina) and Grimes M. 
Tinsley (Donna). Also surviving are his grandchildren Tyler, Victoria 
and Sarah Neubert, Nerissa Kalbfeld (David), Christy Klebart (Damien), 
Catlyn Gottlieb (Brad) and Corey Tinsley (fiancée Nicki) and great 
grandchildren Josalyn & Janelle Gottlieb and Ilianna Kalbfeld. His 
granddaughter Sabrina Monique Tinsley predeceased him. 

Our father and grandfather was an extraordinary man. He lived life to 
the fullest until 1982 when he suffered a heart attack which forever 
changed his life. He received a heart transplant on August 21, 1987. 
He was told not to make long range plans for after ten years. He 
proved everyone wrong, not only did he live 10 and half years longer 
than expected, he also had good quality of life until the last 2 years 
when his health took a turn for the worst. However he still pushed 
forward as hard as he could. He was a true fighter! The last battle 
was the one he couldn't win and he is now at peace. We will all miss 
him but our memories will always be there for us. We love you dad and

DEBRA ANNE "DEBBIE" ROE (SEITS)     (FMHS 1969)    10/23/2008

Debra Anne Roe, 57, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 1959, passed 
away peacefully at Hospice House on October 16, 2008. Debbie was born 
in Wilmington, Delaware and was employed at Gymnastics World for over 
30 years. Her passion in life was teaching "her kids". 

Debbie is survived by her mother, Helen (Lieu) Sabin; her siblings: 
Bill (Joyce) Rodgers of Wilmington, DE; Bob (Pauline) Rodgers of Fort 
Myers, FL; Suzanne (Bill) Turner of Fort Myers, FL; and Sandy Rodgers 
of Lafayette, LA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was 
preceded in death by her father, Dallas Roe and her brothers, John and 
Gary Roe; grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

South Fort Myers gymnastics coach "Miss Debbie", 57, dies

Debbie Roe succumbed to Lou Gehrig's disease

Debbie Roe, a Fort Myers gymnastics coach for more than 30 years, died 
Thursday less than a year after being diagnosed with amytrophic 
lateral sclerosis, also known as "ALS" and Lou Gehrig's Disease. She 
turned 57 on Tuesday. 

In her final weeks, Roe's ex-husband, Carl Seits, and best friend and 
employer, Chris Brooks, were with her. 

"She never complained," Seits said. "We had a serious talk about it. I 
told Debbie her brother (Gary) passed away with this and she said, 
'This is the way it's going to be until I die. I'm going to live my 
life.'" 

Roe's life for decades was coaching children for Brooks at Gymnastics 
World. She was known to generations of young gymnasts in Fort Myers as 
"Miss Debbie." 

"She touched so many lives," said Brooks, who attended Fort Myers High 
with Roe in the late 1960s. 

Roe was diagnosed with the neuromuscular disease on Oct. 29. Her death 
caught many by surprise because of its swiftness. 

"I have had so any calls from people saying what happened," Brooks 
said. "They say it usually takes two to five years. I just can't 
believe. It's hard to know she's not going to be there." 

Roe resided in her downtown Fort Myers apartment until Tuesday and 
then was moved to Hope Hospice in North Fort Myers. 

"I still feel like she's here," Brooks said. "I still can't believe 
it. I'm thinking she had at least another year. You just never know." 

Brooks values the friend she met more than 40 years ago. 

"I was very lucky," Brooks said. "She taught me so much about living 
life to the fullest." 

Although Seits and Roe were divorced, they remained close. 

"She loved kids and loved her job," Seits said. "She was just so full 
of energy. You couldn't slow her down." 

She also loved Carl. They were married nine years and divorced in 
2005. 

"She said I was still her husband as far as she was concerned," Seits 
said. 

Roe was profiled in The News-Press in January. 

"I just have it," Roe said in January of ALS. "I'm not going to stop. 
I'm not going to let it get me." 

Roe coached thousands of children through the years.

"I just love kids," Roe said in January 2008. "Never had any of my 
own and everyone I taught was just like my own." 

No services are planned at the moment. Brooks and Seits hope to have a 
memorial Oct. 25. 


MITCHELL THEODORE "TED" RANDELL (FMHS 1943)   3/2/2008

M. T. "Ted" Randell, a fourth generation Floridian, died Saturday, 
February 23rd of Alzheimer's disease. Ted was born Nov. 15, 1924 in 
Fort Myers to Ruby Vann (Drew) and Redden Wallace Randell. He was 
predeceased by a sister, Jean and two brothers, Wallace Drew and 
Redden Ray. 

After graduating as president of his senior class from FMHS in 1943, 
Ted entered the U.S. Air Corps during WWII. In 1950 he became a proud 
alumnus of the U of F with a BSF in Forestry and membership in Phi 
Delta Theta and "F" club. That same year he married Mary Elizabeth 
Bunnell. Their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated with renewal 
of vows at St. Luke's Church in June, 2000, assisted by their 
children, Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson, III (Mrs. C.L. "Larry") Texas; 
Wallace Frank Randell, DVM (Renelle) of Tallahassee, and Laura Fair 
Randell of Fort Myers. Ted is survived by his wife, Mary; children and 
their families including seven grandchildren and one great-
granddaughter: Eric Theodore Randell (U of F), Alexander Joseph 
Randell (FSU), Sarah Rachel and Mia Fair Randell and Justin (Anna) 
Nishimoto (Tallahassee, FL); C.L. "Charlie" Johnson, IV of Washington, 
DC.; Randall Ashley Johnson ("Jamie") Knotts and Elizabeth Evelyn 
Knotts of Texas. 

From 1964-1974 Ted served Florida in our State House of 
Representatives. In 1966, Ted joined a "People to People Tour" behind 
the "Iron curtain", an experience which heightened his convictions for 
freedom of worship, thought, and action through voting. Preservation 
of natural resources led him to committees on Game & Fresh Water Fish, 
Fresh Water Management, and Salt Water Conservation. "The Randell Act" 
(regulation of coastal dredge-and-fill projects), participation with 
committees on DOT, State Institutions, Juvenile & Adult Corrections, 
Health & Rehabilitative Services, "Physicians Assistant Act", enabling 
legislation for the College of Veterinary Medicine at U of F and 
legislation which secured the current site of I-75 through SW Florida 
as opposed to the east coast were lasting accomplishments. 

Ted followed in the footsteps of paternal grandfather, Theodore 
Randell, who was elected to the FL Constitutional Convention of 1885 
which drew up the state's governing document. When the Florida 
Constitutional Revision Commission was organized nearly a century 
later, grandson, Ted also served in this capacity. Ted was the nephew 
of Florida's Gov. Cary Augustus Hardee, & Sen. Sidney Archibald 
Hinely, both of Live Oak, FL. 

Locally, Ted was active in real estate and many public service 
activities: St. Luke's Church, 320 Mason, United Way of Lee Co., City 
of Fort Myers Planning Council, SW FL Council Boy Scouts of America, 
life member of National Rifle Association and NRA certified marksman 
and firearms safety instructor, Agriculture & Stabilization Committee, 
past president of Cattleman's Association and BUPAC. Hobbies included 
hunting, antique firearms, "quantitative cooking" and political humor.

interment at St. Joseph's Garden at the church. The Randell family

H QUILLIAN "QUILL"/"BUDDY" JONES JR (FMHS 1947)  10/22/2008

Dr. H Quillian Jones, Jr., 79, went to the Lord on October 19, 2008. A 
Florida native, born July 4, 1929, to Dr. H. Quillian Jones, Sr. and 
Dorothy Jones. 

Quill Jones greatly impacted the medical field in Fort Myers, Florida 
performing the first craniotomy, the first total hip replacement, and 
was the first vascular surgeon in Lee County. He was a recipient of 
the coveted Raymond Alexander Award, for outstanding dedication and 
service to the medical profession, and to the field of surgery. Dr. 
Jones, pioneered trauma centers, receiving an award for his masterful 
guidance and superlative leadership. The Florida Committee in Trauma 
and the State of Florida gained national prominence in the treatment 
of injured patients, his plaque reads to Dr. Jones. He has published 
many times on blunt trauma, ruptured urethra splenectomies, ruptured 
colon, and in many other trauma categories. 

He attended Fort Myers High School FMHS 1947 and still holds records 
for his accomplishments on the football field. He attended Catawba 
College, University of Florida, and Emory University in Atlanta, 
Georgia. He served two years as a Captain in the 82nd airborne for the 
United States Army at Fort Bragg before starting his medical practice. 
Being an avid Gator fan he became a scholarship club member to the 
Gator Boosters Incorporated. 

As a living tribute to his father Dr. H. Quillian Jones, Sr., Dr. 
Jones started a perpetual endowment fund to the Edison College Nursing 
Program, for the pinning of nurses. The tradition will be passed down 
to his son Steve H. Jones. 

Dr. Jones risked his much loved career by saving a black gunshot 
victim with surgery, being the first to be admitted at Lee Memorial 
Hospital, a segregated hospital at the time. He was threatened with 
firing, but the man's life was saved. 

In his retirement, his love of the outdoors was reborn, which included 
fishing and wild game hunting. His great travels took him to Alaska, 
Russia, Europe, and Africa. 

Dr. Jones worked for the Fort Myers Community he loved by serving on 
many Boards: Florida Board of Governors, Pan-Pacific, Surgical 
Society, Fort Myers Community Hospital, East Pointe Hospital, Lee 
Memorial Hospital, Trauma Committee Chairman, Cape Coral Hospital, and 
Associate Medical Director at Hope Hospice, Rotary Club Board, WBBH TV 
Board, Cub Scouts of America, Edison Regional Blood Center, National 
Bank of Lee County, SouthTrust Bank and various other state and 
community boards. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Poklemba Jones. Son: 
Michael (Jill) Highsmith of Raleigh, NC; daughter Susan (Dan) 
Graveline of Duluth, GA, son Steve (Laurilyn) Jones of Fort Myers, FL, 
daughter Julie (John) Hulslander of Fort Myers, FL, son H. Quillian 
Jones III (Daniella) of Estero, FL, sister Louise Meek of Belleair, 
FL, and grandchildren Savannah Highsmith of TN, Jackson and Lily 
Highsmith of Raleigh, NC, Alex Graveline of Duluth, GA, Alexa and 
Blake Jones of Fort Myers, Logan, Shane, and Joshua Hulslander of Fort

Southwest Florida loses true medical pioneer

Took civil-rights stand, led innovative surgery

The man arrived at Lee Memorial Hospital bloodied from a gunshot 
wound. 

He was rushed into surgery with Dr. H. Quillian Jones Jr., a young 
surgeon straight from medical school, and spent hours in surgery to 
remove the bullet. 

What happened next could have cost Jones his job; instead, it became a 
defining moment in his career. 

It was the mid-1960s, and segregation prohibited black patients from 
staying at Lee Memorial, where white patients were treated, after 
surgery. Instead, they were to be taken to Jones Walker Hospital, 
known as the black hospital. 

But Jones, who had grown up in Lee County, refused to comply. He did 
not want to risk transporting his patient, weak from hours of surgery, 
to another hospital, so he admitted him - even though it could have 
sent Jones packing. 

"He knew Jones Walker wasn't that great of a hospital," said Jones' 
wife, Pat. "He didn't want to send him there to die." 

Jones, a surgeon known for his commitment to his work and patients, 
died Sunday at age 79. 

Considered to be a medical pioneer in Lee County, Jones moved the 
county's hospitals into the modern era, bringing the first trauma 
surgeons to the area and preforming the first craniotomy and surgery 
on the carotid artery in the county. 

"He was a superb surgeon, loved by his patients," said Dr. Roger 
Scott, a surgeon who worked side-by-side with Jones for more than 10 
years. "I trusted him with my life and I would have trusted him with 
anyone's life." 

Jones was born in Fort Myers in 1929, the son of one of the first 
doctors in Lee County. He graduated from Fort Myers High School in 
1947 before attending Catawba College and the University of Florida, 
followed by medical school at Emory University. 

Jones spent his 20-year career carrying on his father's tradition, 
working at Lee Memorial Hospital and Southwest Regional Medical 
Center, which at the time was known as Fort Myers Community Hospital. 

He was known for his sometimes gruff bedside manner but also for his 
propensity to do what was right for his patients, Scott said. That 
could mean trying new surgeries such as the craniotomy, which opens up 
the skull after a fracture. 

Jones was married four times and had four children. His fourth wife, 
Pat Jones, to whom he was married when he died, was his scrub nurse. 

"You'd hear all these stories about how scary he was," Pat Jones said. 
"But once you were in the OR everything was fine." 

Steve Jones, H. Quillian Jones' third child, remembers his father as a 
lover of the outdoors, the one who taught him how to boat despite a 
busy schedule. His father turned to the outdoors once he retired in 
1985. 

After retirement, he also worked for Hope Hospice, which cared for 
Jones once he became too ill to care for himself. It was as if Jones 
had come full circle, Steve Jones said. 

"It it had to go this way, this was the best way," Steve Jones said. 


BEATRICE S "BEA" KITCHENS (NAYLOR)  (FMHS 1941)  10/13/2008

Beatrice S. "Bea" Naylor, 87, of N. Fort Myers passed away on October 
11, 2008. She was born on September 27, 1921 in Milan, GA, a child of 
Wilson D. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Kitchens. 

Bea moved to Fort Myers in 1930 and often talked about seeing Thomas 
Edison on his daily drives down McGregor Blvd. and in 1931 saw him cut 
the ribbon to the new Edison Bridge on Fowler St. She graduated from 
Fort Myers High in 1941. 

A local business woman she and her husband, Billy owned the Snack 
Drive-In on Heitman St. from 1950-60. They also owned Naylor Flower 
Farms from 1954-86 where they grew, packed and shipped Gladioli and 
for over 10 years they owned the Bee Hive, a very popular dance club 
for teens. 

In 1958 she got her real estate license and met with the Rosen 
brothers and said every one laughed and thought they were crazy for 
their plans to develop Cape Coral. She was very active in the 
Republican Party but later became a Democrat. She had many friends 
through the years and more recently was involved with the lunch bunch 
and Red Hatters clubs. 

She was full of love for so many people and even animals. She always 
said her poodle "Beau'' was the 'love of her life'. She would always 
feed ducks and squirrels and even the lizards in the back yard. She 
was still strong and full of life to her very last day. 

Bea is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wallace E. "Billy" Naylor, 
her children, Sylvia S. (Norm) Carlson of Gainesville, FL, Wallace 
"Wally" of N. Fort Myers and William David (Pamela) Naylor of Deer, 
AR, her grandchildren, Wallace "Ed", Angela, Johnny, Jimmy Jayden, 
William David Jr., Christopher and Ashby Naylor, David W. Carlson, 
Misty Carlson Raley and Shannon Carlson Lestor, her great-
grandchildren, Taylor Carlson, Scott and Blake Lestor, her sister, 
Lessie Hartle of Winston-Salem, NC and her nephew, Jimmy Hartle.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Monday, October 13, 2008 at 7:00 
PM in the First Christian Church, 2061 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers. In 
lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Billy Naylor for her

Brandon J. Kyllo, 23, of Fort Myers, died Monday, December 17, 2007. 
He was a graduate of Fort Myers High School and attended the 
University of Florida, Gainesville. He was employed by the Tim Shaw 
Insurance Agency in Naples as a commercial accounts manager. 

Brandon is survived by his parents, Mark and Debbie Kyllo of Fort 
Myers; sister, Christina M. Kyllo of Naples; grandparents, Virginia 
Thomas of Fairhope, AL, Robert and Patricia Schroeder of Estero and 
Kenneth and Marlene Walter of Cleveland, OH. He was preceded in death 
by his grandparents, Lloyd and Alice Kyllo. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 1:00pm 
at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway Ave., Fort Myers, FL 
33901. A reception will follow. The family suggests that contributions 
be made to the St. Michael Foundation in loving memory of Brandon 
Kyllo.

LOUISE JOSEPHINE PAVESE CLARK       FMHS 1939      2/24/2008

MAY 17, 1921 - FEB. 21, 2008

The letter L is for love and also for Louise, who embodied love. 

Louise Josephine Pavese Clark beloved wife, mother, and friend to all 
she met, passed peacefully onto her Lord on February 21, 2008 at her 
daughter's home in Texas where she has resided for the past two years. 
Louise was born in Fort Myers, Florida on May 17, 1921. 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Theresa 
D'Alessandro Pavese and Michael Patrick Pavese. On October 26, 1944, 
she married her life's eternal love and companion, John Oakley Clark, 
who also preceded her in death on July 23, 1991. John and Louise were 
longtime members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she was a 
member of the Ladies Guild and The Carmelites. She and John educated 
their children at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. Together they 
gave life to five daughters: Caroline Theresa Clark Halgrim of Alva, 
Florida; Ann Louise Clark Fields of Clermont, Florida; Deborah Jean 
Clark Ashbacher of Round Rock, Texas; Theresa Anne Clark Buckmaster of 
Fort Myers, Florida; and Sylvia Joan Clark Pike of Sarasota, Florida. 

Louise is survived by her brother, Frank Anthony Pavese and her 
sister, Nettie "Honey" Pavese Edrich, husband Fred Edrich, and many 
beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her oldest sister, 
Frances Pavese Miller on October 24, 2007. She is also survived by her 
nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who dearly loved and 
embraced their "Ooh-ma". 

Louise's life will be remembered for many things such as her undying 
devotion to her Lord, The Blessed Mother, her holy Catholic faith, her 
husband, and her family. She will be remembered for her generous 
giving of self and time to raise funds for libraries, Senior Centers, 
her church and many other worthwhile causes. Louise loved life and 
embraced it with all its ups and downs. She met it head-on with 
courage, grace, and vivaciousness, especially towards the later days 
of her life when she had many challenges. Her beautiful gift of 
optimism always remained in place. Her love of beautiful music, bridge 
games with friends, and Fort Myers Beach goes without saying. Up to 
the end of her life Louise was tapping out rhythms from the Big Band 
era and singing along with THE SOUND OF MUSIC and with her favorite 
artists, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. In addition, if she could not 
get to the beach, the beach came to her with her constant request for 
the music of SOUTH PACIFIC. Still, what will be remembered and missed 
most of all, was Louise's radiant smile and twinkling hazel green eyes 
which left loved ones as well as strangers happier and more joyful 
whenever they occasioned her lovely countenance. Truly, that smile 
will remain indelibly pressed upon all of our memories. The joy it 
gave to us will be sorely missed. In Louise's twilight years it was a 
quieter laughter, but her smile still filled every room she graced 
with joy and sunshine. All of us who survive her know how blessed we 
were to have had the warmth and wisdom of her life and that 
everlasting smile of love. May God and Heaven now smile upon you dear 
Louise and all your loved ones who preceded you in death. Thank you 
forever for your angelic-like life and always, always for your 
generous and joyful heart.

pm, at Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort 
Myers. The Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial 
will be celebrated Tuesday, February 26th, 9:00 am, at St. Francis 
Xavier Catholic Church, 2157 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers. Interment 
will follow at Fort Myers City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family

230, Austin, Texas 78731. 

Pallbearers are Louise's grandsons: John Halgrim, Robert Halgrim, Erik 
Halgrim, Charles Fields, and Scott Fields and her nephews Michael and 
Frank Pavese.

BETTY JO NORRIS (RUTLEDGE)(PIRKLE)  FMHS 1950     10/13/2008

Betty Jo Pirkle, age 77, passed away suddenly on October 10, 2008 in 
Greenville, SC. She was born May 27, 1931 to Lester and Elisabeth 
Norris in Fort Myers, FL. She grew up and lived most of her life in 
Fort Myers. 

Betty is survived by her children and grandchildren along with their 
families: son Robert Rutledge, his wife Mary, their children Matthew, 
Sarah Kendall, and Stephen; son John Rutledge, his wife Kathy, their 
children David and Jennifer; step-daughter Kathryn Carlson, her 
husband Ed, their children Valerie Miskovich and Virginia Guy. She is 
further survived by her brother Bill Norris and his wife Sherie; 
sister-in-law Ruth Norris. She was preceded in death by Jack her 
husband of 19 years and her brother Jack Norris. Betty was a kind, 
joyful, and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She dearly 
loved her family and friends. 

There will be a visitation Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 5:00 to 
7:00 pm at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home at 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort 
Myers, FL, 33907. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 16, 
2008 at 1:00 pm at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home with interment to 
follow at Lee Memorial Park. Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home is in

ERNEST LAMAR "BONEY" MIDDLETON   (FMHS 1945)   10/5/2008

Ernest "Boney" Middleton, born Jan 20, 1927 passed away Oct 02, 2008. 
Boney was a pioneer of Fort Myers and a proud "Greenie" from the class 
of 1945. This is where he excelled in academics and sports; Boney was 
inducted in the Fort Myers Senior High School Football Hall of Fame in 
1996. Boney was a student of the University of Florida, he Bled Orange 
and Blue all of his adult life. As a young boy he was involved in Boy 
Scouts where he was awarded the highest Honors "Order of the Arrow" 
and "Eagle Scout". Boney was a soldier in the United States Army he 
served our Country during WWII in the Pacific. After which he 
continued to serve as an Officer in the Special Forces and Reserves 
until 1967. Boney provided for his family as an independent insurance 
agent then owner of Midtown Insurance. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his former wife Pamela Symonds 
Robinson (FMHS 1953)  the mother of his six children; Rick, Steve 
(FMHS 1973), Judy Wolf (Rocky) (FMHS 1975), Bill (FMHS 1978) (Cheryl), 
Mary, Nancy Arlotta (FMHS 1980)(Pete), also eight grandchildren and 
one great granddaughter and his beloved life partner of 31 years, 
Virginia Williamson, her 4 children and 5 grandchildren and his sister 
Rena Mae Bartley.

THOMAS H CHUDERSKI        FMHS 1963        11/24/2008


Thomas H. Chuderski has lost his battle with cancer. Tom was born in 
Jacksonville, FL, September 20, 1945, He has lived in Fort Myers since 
1960. 

He is survived by his wife Kathy of 34 years and his daughter 
Christina Chuderski and son Michael Chuderski. Both reside in Fort 
Myers. 

Tom worked in Fort Myers as a salesman in several stores, until at age 
57 he realized his dream of becoming a teacher. He has taught in Lee 
County schools since then. Although his teaching career was short, it 
was his dream to touch and help the hearts and minds of "his kids". 
God speed. We love you. 

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 2:00 PM 
at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. Entombment will follow. Visitation 
will be from 12 Noon until the time of the service.
