BOUGH, DEANNA KAY (BROOKS) (FMHS 1968) July 12, 2012
JULY 8, 2012
Deanna was born November 3, 1950 in Bedford, Indiana to Melvin Bough and Rita (Sipes)
Bough. The family moved to Ft. Myers in 1961 where she remained until her death.
Deanna graduated in the top one percent of her class with Honors from Ft. Myers High
School in 1968 , she was also part of the Hall of Fame and Omega Club. She then attended
the University of Florida graduating in 1972 where she would enjoy more success making
the Dean's List, Phi Beta Kappa and marry her high school sweetheart Michael Brooks,
(FMHS 1968) they would be married for 23 years. She earned her Ph.D in Psychology in
1983. 1983 would be a seminal year for Deanna as her first child, daughter Lindsey was
born. Then in 1987 she had her second child, son Kyle (FMHS 2006).
Aside from her professional career Deanna enjoyed many activities including hiking and
camping in the Smoky Mountains, water skiing, bowling, picnicking, Florida Gator Sports
and anything that involved her beloved children.
Deanna was known for her passion for her children above all else, her dedication to her
work and how she would warm everyone's heart with her infectious smile and unending
compassion.
Deanna's close friend and colleague Liz Bender relates:
"Deanna's professional career as a Psychologist at Lee Mental Health Center began in
1979. She worked in the Adult Outpatient Unit for several years before she was promoted
to program manager for Project Prevent. She supervised several staff members and
provided services to young children, 0 to 8 and their families. She later became a
supervisor for Children's Outpatient Services and continued to provide counseling to
children and families. She was a mentor to many staff members and she supervised
interns from nearby Universities. Her peers described her as being "nurturing and
sensitive", "accepting and nonjudgmental" and "a brilliant clinician who understood
and cared about her clients". Her primary passion for 30 years was to provide mental
health services to children and families in our community. Deanna was well respected
in our community for her clinical skills, her compassion and understanding, and her
ability to establish a positive therapeutic relationship with her clients. Deanna
loved being a therapist and professionally she was most content when she was working
with children. She never gave up on a client and she always found positive
characteristics in each child. Deanna will be greatly missed in our community!"
Her children Lindsey and Kyle aspire to dedicate themselves as deeply to their passions
as much as Deanna did to her own. She is survived by her, Son, Kyle Brooks, Daughter,
Lindsey Biggs and her husband Thomas Biggs, Father, Melvin Bough, Sister Deylnn White
and her husband Glen White, their children Shanon White (FMHS 1998) and Darren White
(FMHS 2003) and his wife Rachelle White and Morgan, her beloved cat.

MOODY, JAMES WALTER "JIM"/"JIMMY" (FMHS 1957) June 10, 2012
July 23, 1939 - June 4, 2012
Jim Moody, beloved husband of Debbie, died June 4, 2012 in Gainesville, FL
at the age of 72.
He was born and grew up in Fort Myers, FL where he attended Fort Myers High
School. He was on the swim team, played trumpet in the "Greenies" Marching
Band, was president of the student council, an Eagle Scout, and was a "King
of Edisonia". He graduated from the University of Florida, where he also
swam and played trumpet, and was a Sigma Chi.
Jim then went on to serve in the Army. In business, he co-owned a motel, had
a lawn service, and owned real estate investments.
He had homes in Fort Myers Beach, FL, where he lived most of his life and was
declared unofficial "Mayor" by his many friends; and in Gainesville, FL and
Gatlinburg, TN.
Jim was a "friend" to everyone. He truly liked people. He found everyone
interesting. He didn't care how rich or poor, young or old, what your job or
ethnicity was. He just liked meeting and talking with people. That was the
greatest thing about him. Jim was a friend, and had lots of friends. He was
never bored, and never found time to do everything he wanted to do. He was
a true "lover of life".
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie Kutz Moody. He was the love
of her life, and her best friend. He called her his "Heart". They never ran
out of things to talk about.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Stan Kutz (Sheryl) who was 24
years younger. They were "best friends", "brothers", and "father and son".
Jim taught Stan how to drive a boat and dive for lobster when he was just
9 years old. They were diehard Gator fans and finally got to see the "year
of the Gator" in New Orleans for the 1996 Championship game, along with
Debbie and Sheryl. They barely survived Bourbon Street; and when coming
home to Gainesville went directly to the Gator Shops for memorabilia
before going home. Good Times!
Jim is also survived by his brother-in-law, Victor Kutz (Debbie) and sister-
in-law, Pat Kutz; as well as nieces and nephews, Lucy Shuford (James),
Aubrey Shuford, Kiley Shuford, Victor Kutz, Jr. (Vanessa), Jaime Kutz, Joey
Davis (Heather), and his cousins that he grew up with in North Fort Myers,
the Moody girls Martha (FMHS 1958), Carolyn (FMHS 1957), Linda (FMHS 1961)
and his Godchildren, Casey Lyon and Darby Patton.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Thelma Moody, long-time
residents of Fort Myers, FL
==PICTURE==
Jim requested no funeral - too much sadness. Instead, he wished all his
friends at the "Whale", "Nappy's", and "Greenbrier" to hoist a cold one
in his memory.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory can do so to the ACLU,
PBS, or University of Florida Foundation.
Arrangements are in the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville,
FL. Online condolences may be made at www.forestmeadowsfh.com
Stan's Message to Jim
Thanks for all you gave me from my first seasickness, to our trips to the
Keys, our fishing trips with our fathers and family, our great Gator
weekends and making it through the greatest Gator weekend in New Orleans,
times in the mountains or just a trip up the road. You saw the world in a
way no one else does and that's what made you the special person you are.
But mostly you made me the person I am.
You are not a brother-in-law, not a friend, but the closest person in my
life.
I miss you,
Stan Kutz

BRINSON, MELVILLE GIBBONS "MEL" JR (FMHS 1956) 15 Mar to 18 Mar 2012
(1937 - 2012)
March 12, 2012
Melville Gibbons Brinson, Jr. was born November 24, 1937 in Waycross,
Georgia, as the first child of parents: Melville G. Brinson and Mary
Posey Brinson. Due to his father's work in a family owned highway
construction business, he attended several elementary and junior
high schools in Sanford, Florida, Fort Myers, and Tampa, and
graduated from Fort Myers Junior-Senior High in 1956, having
participated as a member of its football, basketball and swimming
sports programs.
After graduation he entered the University of Florida, studying
Civil Engineering and enrolled in the first of his four years in
ROTC. After 3 ½ years in the engineering program, he switched
majors, and in 1961 he graduated from the University of
Florida's College of Agriculture with a degree in Animal Science.
While still attending college, he married high school and college
classmate, Sidney Ann Bass (FMHS 1956), of Fort Myers. Their
first son was born a few months before he received his degree.
Through ROTC, he had committed to military service, and the
family next spent 2 years in France while he served as a Second
Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, overseeing
the construction of roads and bridges as well as guarding our
ammunition depot in that country. Their second son was born
during his tour in France; their daughter was later born in
Fort Myers and the family was completed.
Upon the family's return to the United States, Mel worked for a
time with Johnson Engineering, a part of which included
surveying portions of the Edison Mall. Later, he entered into
a partnership with Ira Bobo, and they bought and managed Deep
Lagoon Marina for a number of years. Some of the family's
efforts included land investment, and after successful sale
of some industrial property on what is now Metro Parkway,
they were able to purchase acreage east of Estero, and formed
Corkscrew Ranch, a cattle ranch where their children helped
as (un)hired hands. Eventually the ranch property was sold
and he retired from the cattle business.
Mel and Sidney Ann supported a number of prominent community
organizations and activities including Rotary, the Edison
Pageant of Light, and the Edison Home Foundation.
Mel was also a lifelong Gator supporter, not only as a sports
fan with a Bull Gator membership, but also with financial
support in the form of The Brinson Family Fellowship which
provides scholarships to students in the College of Business
Administration.
In 1990 Mel moved with his family to Saint James City on Pine
Island, where he has retired and lived until his death March
12, 2012. Mel was survived by his beloved wife, Sidney Ann,
by his three children Melville "Brin" Brinson, III (FMHS 1979)
(Peggy), Donald Lee Brinson (FMHS 1981) (Ann) and Suzanne
Brinson (FMHS 1983) Clapp (Thomas).
He is also survived by six grand children, Donald Lee Brinson,
Jr. (FMHS 2007), Chelsea M. Brinson (FMHS 2009), Brittany A.
Brinson (FMHS 2011), Suzanne C. Brinson, Robert "Shep" Brinson,
and Thomas C. Clapp, Jr., as well as by his brothers George
(FMHS 1959) (Cookie) and Steve (FMHS 1961) (Susan) and their
families, including numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and
grand nephews and nieces.
Mel enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, watching the Florida
Gators play football and many other activities. He was
blessed with many close friends and family members who will
all miss him greatly.

MASSIE, JAMES "JIM" FRANKLIN (FMHS 1956) May 3 to May 5, 2015
May 1, 2015
James Franklin Massie, beloved husband of Shari Massie, and treasured father
of Cliff Massie and Jenny Provost, went to be with his Heavenly Father on
Friday, May 1st, 2015. A lifelong resident of Fort Myers, Jim is remembered
as a good man and a great humanitarian.
A master of the history of Florida, and Fort Myers in particular, Jim
captivated listeners of his stories; anecdotes that few people knew. He took
great joy in sharing his ample remembrances of our colorful local history.
He was born on May 25th, 1938 to George Massie and Shirley Mae Horne in
Fort Myers and was a graduate of Fort Myers High School. Together, Jim and
Shari owned several businesses in the area including a cabinetry shop and
wholesale distributorship.
Most well known for his compassion for those less fortunate than himself,
and for his warm and abundant sense of humor, Jim never looked the other
way when he saw someone in need. Many local residents who experienced
rough patches in their lives will recall Jim's open arms and generous
heart. Jim was a rock; a mountain of a man and he leaves big shoes to fill.
In the final years of his amazing life, Jim, along with his best friend
and wife of 50 years, Shari, were instrumental in the establishment and
operations of Grace United Methodist Church's mission to feed the hungry.
For the past 6 years, Jim, Shari, and a generous group of volunteers
prepared 2500 meals per month which have been provided at no charge to
those in need in our community.
Along with his devoted wife and children, Jim leaves granddaughters
Kacee and Kellye Keegan, grandson Cliff Massie Jr., great granddaugther
Evyn Mae Lahey (aka Peanut), and daughter-in-law Dee Massie to treasure
the life he lived. And four precious dogs because Jim could never let
a dog be unloved.
